Hotel
Safety Tips
It’s so easy to think less of the important
things when you embark on your holiday but
it’s essential nevertheless if you wish to
spend your holiday being comfortable with
your surroundings and being safe.
If you follow a few personal rules of being
aware what is happening around you and being
watchful of people that enter your room,
i.e. delivery boys or waiters/waitresses
that they go about their business and leave
– you should not leave them on their own. .
Don’t simply accept them as being members of
staff just because they don the hotel’s
uniform, you should look closely at them so
that they are aware that you can identify
them if it becomes necessary. Your safety
and that of your family should be your
number one priority.
With more and more terrorist warnings about
possible hotel attacks in addition to the
usual bad guys out there, it is important to
be aware that Room service is an easy way of
getting into your room and assessing what
you may have that they want. The
opportunist thief will take any opportunity
that they can to take what is not theirs.
To thwart these opportunists, don’t leave wallets, money, jewellery on
open display.
Don't answer the door in a hotel or motel
room without verifying who is at the door.
If a person claims to be an employee, call
the front desk and ask if someone from the
hotel staff is supposed to have access to
your room and for what purpose.
When returning to your hotel late in the
evening, use the main entrance of the hotel
and be vigilant of activity in the vicinity,
particularly before entering hotel parking
areas.
Close the door securely whenever you are in
your hotel room and use all of the locking
devices provided.
Don't needlessly display guest room keys in
public, especially if you are on your own,
or carelessly leave them on restaurant
tables, at the swimming pool, or other
places where they can be stolen.
Look after these items otherwise they could
be used against you.
Do not draw attention to yourself by
displaying large amounts of cash or
expensive jewellery.
Don't invite strangers to your hotel room.
Place all valuables in the hotel's safe
deposit box.
Do not leave valuables in your vehicle as
you may not only lose your valuables but
also your vehicle.
Check to see that any sliding glass doors or
windows and any connecting room doors are
locked.
If you see any suspicious activity, please
report your observations to the hotel
management.
Upon arrival, inform them at Reception if
you require special evacuation assistance in
the event of an emergency.
